Welcome to Safari Kids Children's Ministry
at First Alliance Church of Port Charlotte
We're so glad you're interested in joining us as we serve the kids and families in our church family! When you join our team, you join us on an adventure as we help kids meet and know Jesus, learn that God loves them...so they can love others, and live a life saved and changed through a relationship with God! Safari Kids Welcome Team
If you love to meet new people and God has gifted you with an ability to connect with others, then our Welcome Team is for you!
Greeters: “Welcome, connect, and escort.”
Remember what it's like to walk onto a campus, brand new, and have no idea where you should go or what you should do? Our Safari Kids greeters will make sure that new families have a great first-time visit by connecting with them in the breezeway as they enter. Greeters welcome them with a smile, and help these new families stop at or find out about the welcome desk, then escort them to the check-in room. Greeters stay with the family, engaging them in conversation, until the leader can sign them in.
Welcome Team Member: “Smile, greet, & check them in!”
Getting kids to church on Sunday can sometimes mean a hectic, rushed morning. Our welcome team members make sure that once at church, families are met with people who are excited to see them and their kids! These team members greet our returning families with a smile & welcome them as they come through the line and into the check-in room. They direct the grown-ups to a check-in station, help them if needed, and escort (or find a team member to escort) Little Explorers to their rooms.
Check-In Room Leaders: “Check in, Remain, & Check out.”
We have lots of kids - so we need to be organized! Our check-in leaders sign in visiting or new families, using our check-in database system. When there aren't visiting families, they help with other check-ins as needed. During service these leaders remain in the check-in room, to assist with paging parents, check in families running late, or to just be available to talk parents who may have questions. Leaders also manage the check-out process by scanning tags, using the radio, and directing other team members to help.
Safari Kids Little Explorer's Team
Do you love caring for and playing with babies, toddlers, or preschoolers? Are you ready to see a young one's eyes light up when they see you, and to connect with parents who are grateful for the love you show their little one? Then our Little Explorers team, which serves babies - Kindergarten, may be for you!
Hippo & Giraffe Room Leaders: “Love, Care for, Connect"
It's not always easy to drop off your baby or toddler - but our leaders in these rooms help parents rest assured that their kids are being loved on and cared for while they worship or attend small group. Our leaders in the Hippo (nursery) & Giraffe (2s/3s) rooms should be ready to cuddle, play, wipe away tears, change diapers, and show love to "the least of these!" Our leaders also help us show that we care for their families by frequently walking the kids out at dismissal time in order to connect with the parents/guardians.
Elephant & Cheetah Room Leaders: “Teach, Play, Connect”
Preschool (Elephany room) & Kindergarten (Cheetah room) kids are full of energy, and are ready to play, learn, and make friends! Leaders in these rooms should be ready to talk about Jesus' love, help kids make friends, wipe sticky hands, and receive hugs from little arms! These leaders follow an organized schedule during which they teach Biblical truths, provide both structured and free play opportunities., and encourage friendship connections. They also get to connect with the families by sending postcards out monthly, and periodically walking the kids out during dismissal.
Safari Kids Watering Hole Team
Do you love to see kids get excited to learn, sing, and play? Do you want to see and encourage the "child-like faith" that Jesus talks about in the New Testament? Then Watering Hole, our program for 1st - 5th grades, may be for you!
Whole Group Worship Leaders: “Create, host, and connect.”
If you are comfortable up in front of a group, can see yourself getting kids excited to sing, and want to show kids how stories from the Bible relate to their everyday lives, then this role may be for you! Our whole group worship leaders host an organized & interactive half hour of worship which include songs, a Bible memory verse, a video-based Bible story, and an application of the verse and story. After a half-hour with the PreK - 2nd grade kids, you'll do a similar 30 minutes with the 3rd - 5th grade kids. This all happens at our 9:45 service!
Whole Group Activity Leaders: “Have fun. Make faith connections.”
Maybe you don't want to teach...but playing games and doing fun activities? That's right up your alley! Our whole group activity leaders at the 9:45 service time create & lead interactive games or activities that connect to our lesson or memory verse, and in so doing, provide a context for making friends and having faith conversations. You lead a group of 3rd - 5th graders, and then after a half-hour, switch out and have fun with a group Kindergarten - 2nd grade kids!
Small Group Leaders: “Lay down, Build up, & Encourage!”
If you like to make personal connections with kids as they tell you their prayer requests, learn about the Bible, and have fun in a small group, then you might want to be a small group leader during the 11:15 service time! Through discussion or activities related to a Bible passage or verse, our small group leaders lay down a foundation of Biblical knowledge & truths about God, and help kids see the relevance of what they’ve learned by applying it to their daily lives. They encourage kids to deeper levels of faith by asking them to help teach/explain, or by challenging them to more consistent faith disciplines such as prayer, Bible study, or service.
Discipleship Leaders: “Connect and make it real.”
Our 5th graders are getting ready to step into the world of middle school, and we want to help prepare them! If you want to get to know one or two 5th graders on a deeper level, and help them see how to make their faith real as they get ready for this transition, and you enjoy a more relational approach over a lesson format, this role may be for you! Our discipleship leaders schedule meetings twice a month with their kids, during the 11:15 service. They create an atmosphere through activities, games, crafts, etc., in which they can discuss real life applications of Biblical truths (e.g. sin, grace, forgiveness) or spiritual disciplines (e.g. prayer & Bible reading).
